Pictured Below - Dr Michelle Barton BVSc with a very special patient, 'Horris,' a very old
pig, who has since passed away due to a bone tumour on his shoulder.
It's Simple really... 'Michelle Inspires me' and is my, ' passionate about piggies', vet, the best I
have encountered, (please note, there are lots of brilliant exotics vets available).
Before I was an official shelter, I have on occasion, required veterinary assistance with a couple
of my own personal pigs. I have been to a few vets (that weren't exotics) and all of my pigs have ended up in
the same position....not real good :(
I didnt walk out of these appointments with confidence in the answers I received, nor did I
receive the results I was assured.
Most people laugh when I mention that I take
guinea pigs to the vet, they all say the same
thing,'why pay for a vet visit when you can
just let that one die and get another for $5'.
So to meet Michelle Barton of Green Cross Inala, I was inspired to find someone so willing to help my shelter pigs. To get to the bottom of a 'strange illness', to find the reason behind that 'blockage', 'hair loss', 'lumps' etc - but most importantly - there to give me answers..
'Down to Earth' and a Refreshing Team backing her, I am proud to say that my shelter would not be where it is today, without the support and ongoing commitment that I am shown from Michelle and the Nurses of Green Cross Inala.
I regularly take shelter pigs to see Michelle, sometimes twice a week and up to 6 at a time (sorry George!!).
I find it fascinating to learn more and more about the most severe of diseases and injury cases, that come
into my shelter. We are able to save many lives and have the knowledge and commitments to
continue the work with others in need.
Shelter piggy, 'Kai', about to have his desexing surgery. Kai has been adopted.
Dr Michelle Barton is also a fantastic Ratty vet as well :)
